KEYWORTH ANNUAL HORTICULTURAL, ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW

Sandwiched in the middle of two very wet spells of weather the Horticultural Show was blessed with a day of sunshine. More people than ever entered exhibits and came through the doors of the Marquee to see the magnificent display.
Some statistics will help put into perspective the work and effort that is put in by the committee in the months leading up to the show and particularly on the very hectic day of the show itself:
- 92 classes, 40 of which were changed for this year, in 15 sections are defined for the Schedule
- 1500 schedules are printed and distributed around Keyworth and surrounding Villages
- 232 entry forms are collated, logged and registered
- 12 independent and qualified judges are organized to come on show day; 4 of the judges this year were new to the event
- 550 entries plus a couple of hundred or so submissions from the 3 local junior schools have to be arranged in the marquee in the correct class position
- 276 prize cards are filled in on show day by the committee – after judging which starts at 10:30am and before the marquee can be open to the public at 1:00pm
- 30 cups and prizes are awarded and presented on show day
- 60 cash prizes are handed to winning children and young people – made possible by a kind donation from the Keyworth and District Arts Association
.... and when all this is over we auction off any remaining produce to help defray costs for the day, clear up the marquee and retire home for a well earned rest.
The trophies this year were presented by well known village personalities Margaret and Roy Eggleston – delighted to be away from the Post Office counter and hand over the trophies to proud winners who will hold them for the next twelve months when they will once more be up for contention.
Many thanks and much appreciation to the local businesses who donated prizes, to the judges, to the helpers, to Margaret and Roy for presenting the trophies, to the committee who give of their time throughout the year and tirelessly on the day, to all those who visited the Marquee on 14th July and particular thanks to all the entrants who make such a valuable contribution to the success of this key attraction to Keyworth’s Principal annual event and without whom the show would not exist.
