2003 Horticultural Show Report

The weather could not have been better and the majority of the 90 classes in the show this year were well subscribed. The number of classes had again increased from the previous year and almost 500 formal entries plus numerous entries from the local schools were received and put on display. This was equal to previous years and there were again many new entrants. Keyworth Arts Association again supported the show with a donation to cover the prizes awarded for all the children's classes. One disappointment was the lack of entries in the three new classes introduced specifically for teenagers.

The woodcraft section, which was new a couple of years ago, attracted fewer albeit high quality entries. Flower arrangements were well presented and gave a wonderful display to the rear of the marquee.

After the judging and points gathering was complete we were able to open up the marquee to the public shortly after 1 O'clock. There were hoards of visitors throughout the afternoon. The Marquee proved to be a good location for the competition and the Flower Arrangement Demonstration by Jean Inglis was very well attended. At 4 O'clock Dr Andrew Woods of the Keyworth Health Centre presented the trophies in front of an enthusiastic and supportive audience.

This year we were able to present improved trophies to the Children's classes following a welcome donation from a show supporter and there was a new cup, the Kadzinuni Cup donated by the Seller's Family, for the competitor with the most points in the Photographic classes.

Thanks and appreciation to the local businesses who donated prizes, to the judges, to the helpers, to Jean Inglis and her team for the flower demonstration, to Andrew Woods for presenting the trophies, to the committee who give of their time throughout the year, to all those who visited the Marquee on 12th July. Particular thanks to all the entrants who make such a valuable contribution to the success of this key attraction to Keyworth's Principal annual event and without whom the show would not exist.
