Suggestions and ideas for 2008
Thanks to everyone who left suggestions and ideas in the box at the show;
please e-mail the website if you have other thoughts or further comments.
- Move flower arranging tables nearer to the marquee entrance so
that there is not as far to carry arrangements from the Car Park
Response – This is a good idea and will be considered for next
years show; see also comment 4 which may be even better for flower
arrangers.
- Why is it always the same names/persons winning.
Response – If the same people do win this is a reflection of their
competence, their enthusiasm for entering and maybe the lack of competition;
there has however been changes in the winner’s names year on year
as new entrants try their hand. There is a novices’ class in
flower arranging for anyone who has not won a prize before and we may
consider this for other sections in future.
It is also worth noting here that some entrants do put more than one
entry into a class but they can only win one prize in that class.
- Kids Class – Home-made Card; specified A4 ‘paper’ but
1st, 2nd & 3rd were on card.
Response – Sorry we missed this important detail when the entries
were being brought in; the judge awarded prizes on merit of design,
content of the verse and creativity of the design. We will certainly
be clearer about the description in future years.
- Allow Flower Arrangements to be done on the Friday night.
We could not leave them in the marquee overnight for safety and security
reasons; we are however looking at the possibility of using one of
the rooms at the playing fields to enable this to happen – Watch
this space!
- Needs New Judging Blood. Always the same!
Response – Four of the Judges this year were different from those
used in 2005 which is a fair turnover for a show of this type. If anyone
is a judge and would like to help in future years or anyone knows of
judges who would be willing to help please let us know at horticultural@keyworthshow.org
We should point out that this a voluntary role.
- Children’s Class No 78 – says
use A4 PAPER. 1st 3 winners were all on card. Please state if both
can be used.
Response – see comment 3.
- Add Children’s classes for the Fruit and Veg. My 5 year
old grows his own but they weren’t a match for the likes of these
[on display].
Response – a great idea; we will see what can be done next year.
- Make the Miniature Garden in a size dependant container
as opposed to tin-foil. No meals are bought in trays any more so I
had to buy a pack especially.
Response – thanks for the comment; we will change the requirements
next year.
- Have a ‘Churches of Keyworth’ class
for flower arranging.
Response – the Club Class will be looked at to include this next
year.
- It says in the rules [all cookery exhibits] 'to be shown
on a plain paper plate' but all 3 of the winning entries in the '3
bugs' class were on decorated plates! Also it said '3 chocolate bugs'
but 2 of the winning entries had 6/7 bugs.
Response – Sorry again that we missed such important detail when
the entries were being brought in; again the judge awarded prizes on
merit of quality and creativity of the cookery. In the future we will
certainly endeavor to check all entries when they are put on display.
- If the committee advertises an e-mail address for questions,
then why was it not answered after 4 weeks?
Response – Having received this query the e-mail in box has been
re-checked and there has been no delay in replying beyond 10days [this
lengthy response time was unfortunately due to holidays]. Please check
the e-mail address used and in future it is fine to ask for a ‘read
receipt’ so that e-mails can be chased if there is no reply.
There is also a telephone nos. contact given in the schedule if needed.
