KEYWORTH ANNUAL HORTICULTURAL, ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW

There were over 100 more entries and 40 more entrants than last year in this year's Keyworth Horticultural, Arts and Crafts Show. All the entries provided a great show in the Marquee on the village playing fields to brighten a rather damp, dull day for this year's event. Despite the weather the tables with all the flowers were overflowing with entries and looked magnificent; indeed all sections of the competition were cramped for space but a delight to view.
Congratulations to the Fowkes family who won the trophy for the family with the most points, to Barry Turvey who won the trophy for the entrant with most points and to Austin Shepherd who won the Hartley Trophy for the young person with the most points.
The trophies this year were presented by Chris Mills, well known in the village mainly for his time broadcasting with BBC East Midlands Today. He joined us in the marquee to see the process of judging as well as quizzing a couple of the judges about their credentials for the job in hand; they are all qualified to judge in their own particular field of expertise and the entries are all anonymous until the results are compiled when judging is finished.
Chris was delighted to meet and congratulate the talented winners of trophies and prizes; many of you may have seen the trophies on display in Village Hair for a couple of weeks leading up to the show. The prizes came from local businesses around the village and this year we were delighted that Keyworth Arts Association gave vouchers to the winners in all the painting classes as well as donating the children’s prizes.
This year, as well as having the Mayor of Rushcliffe visit the show marquee, we had the judges for the Village in Bloom Competition accompanied by David Roos who is coordinating Keyworth’s entry to the competition.
The horticultural show is sponsored by the Keyworth and District Gardening Association who provide much of the resource to organise and run the event and this year had an impressive display stand to publicise their events and advantages of membership.
Many thanks and much appreciation to the local businesses who donated prizes, to the judges, to the helpers, to Chris Mills for presenting the trophies, to the committee who give of their time throughout the year and tirelessly on the day, to all those who visited the Marquee on 12th July and particular thanks to all the entrants who make such a valuable contribution to the success of this key attraction to Keyworth’s principal annual event and without whom the show would not exist.
